Urban Atrery

Purpose:
A February 2010 article in the American Journal of Public Health found it worthwhile to explore the relationship between engagement with the creative arts and health outcomes, specifically the health effects of music engagement, visual arts therapy, and movement-based creative expression. There was supporting evidence that art-based interventions are effective in reducing adverse physiological and psychological outcomes. The Urban Artery is a wellness project, embodying the pulse of the community, facilitating community healing through education and creative expression.

 

Objective:

This novel creative wellness collaborative will provide a welcoming community environment for creative outlet, stress reduction, an increase in quality of life, a greater sense of well-being, a decrease in negative coping behaviors thru a deeper self health connection, and provide access to initiate and inspire new creative expression while supporting existing creative expression.

 

Community Services: 

  • Wellness Retreats: Creative Process Workshops: Closet artists needing a supportive environment to bring their art expression to surface thru greater self awareness. 

  • Mindful Photography: Inner city transitional age youth looking for a safe and welcoming place to share their art and see life differently.

  • Urban Artist Collective: Community members looking for personal artistic inspiration thru a supportive artistic environment.

  • Meditative Movement: Persons experiencing creative blocks in personal expression and health challenges related to managing stress.
